250 Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)

Our 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program includes 200 hours required by Yoga Alliance and 50 hours of supplemental topics on Depth Psychology and Sustainable Practices. Graduates will receive a certificate at the 200-Hour level, are eligible to register as RYT200 with Yoga Alliance, and will receive a second certificate in trauma-conscious yoga.

Dual Certificate Program

Did you know that our 250-Hour YTT is Duluth's only trauma-conscious yoga school? Our 250-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program is a dual certificate program, meaning graduates will receive certificates for both the 200-Hour level as yoga instructors and in trauma-conscious yoga.

Being trauma-informed is increasingly important today. Trauma can make the world feel difficult and unsafe, affecting health, behavior, mental health, and relationships. Understanding trauma fosters compassion and empathy, leading to healing and positive change.

The good news is that if we assume most people experience trauma, it’s easier to understand their behavior. Compassion generates empathy and skillfulness, rather than judgement.

We are honored to have trauma-conscious yogi Kyle Heyesen guiding our curriculum from a trauma-conscious perspective, ensuring our program enlightens students and systems through compassionate and skillful interventions.

Yoga Teacher Training: Deepen Your Practice and Share It with Others

What makes our program unique is its emphasis on classical yogic thought and meditation, dual certification in trauma-conscious yoga, and supplemental coursework in Depth Psychology. Our "Classroom Without Walls" philosophy includes field trips to farms and urban homesteads to learn about sustainable agriculture and herbalism, enriching the learning experience and supporting your personal spiritual journey.

Students will also study postures, anatomy, and yoga philosophy. Graduates will be equipped to teach foundational techniques, including cueing, adjustments, modifications, and variations, with confidence and awareness. Our program provides the tools to deepen your personal practice and support living your values.

The Curriculum: Taking Yoga Off the Mat and Into Daily Life

Our curriculum integrates classical yoga, seated meditation, trauma-conscious yoga, depth psychology, and sustainable practices to offer a holistic training experience for the whole person—body, mind, psyche, spirit, and soul.

Students will benefit from small class sizes and personalized attention while learning in a supportive community. The program covers the yoga tradition, its relevance in modern Western life, and practical sustainable practices like gardening, food sourcing, sustainable agriculture and herbalism.

Testimonials

  • “My yoga is everywhere. My yoga is in everything. I signed up for Yoga Teacher Training as a way to commit to and deepen my own practice. I absolutely gained that and while I was at it I have found community, accountability, opportunities to reach beyond where I ever would have gone on my own, and guidance as I faced my reluctance. I have been inspired over and over. Thank you to Svalja Yoga School for this gift.” -J.D.

  • “This program exceeded my expectations in preparing me to guide and teach a yoga class. They gave me the tools, resources and awareness of how to better nurture others while at the same time caring for myself. I will carry these values and lessons with me throughout my lifetime and bring them into my teachings! Thank you for such a wonderful experience and I highly recommend this school to anyone with aspirations of becoming a yoga teacher!” -S.L.

  • "It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to convey how Svalja has changed the fibers of my being. I went in a loose set of strands splaying in every direction and came out a carefully woven rope with the tensile strength and flexibility of a tried and true halyard equipped on a seaward vessel, destined to sail on for eternity. From the lessons on herbalism, discussions of the Hero's Journey, dream tending sessions, to the silent retreat and everything in between; there wasn't a moment that wasn't impactful. Everyday I find a sense of gratitude for the knowledge, experience and support I've been given, as well as the sincere community I have found in my fellow cohort members and instructors alike."  -R.R.
