The Sanskrit Ayus + Veda = Ayurveda, the knowledge or science of life
Through this ancient science we will learn to honor, love and support our bodies, minds, and hearts in the most holistic way possible.
In this course we will explore:
Ayurvedic Principles
Prakriti - an individual’s inherent constitution dictating one’s physical, mental, and emotional tendencies throughout life
Vikriti - an individual’s current state, which can change over time due to external influences like diet, lifestyle, stress, and seasonal changes
Branches of Ayurvedic Treatment
Five Elements and the Senses - each element is linked to a specific sensory organ and function, connecting our physical experiences to the natural world

The Three Doshas
Doshas are the three primary energies or forces that govern physiological and psychological processes within the body and mind. These doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) are formed from combinations of the five elements (Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth), and each dosha influences particular aspects of our health and behavior.

Margaret Harstad, RTT, CLMT, AYS, PPYT, eRYT200, YACEP
Margaret Harstad is the owner of Muggymoose, her business of 18 years, where she offers a myriad of bodywork techniques and also works with clients creating Ayurvedic recommendations that benefit their specific needs. Her specialty is Thai Bodywork, certified with the Thai Healing Alliance since 2008. Her work also includes Therapeutic Table Massage, Ayurvedic Consults and Therapies, Chi Nei Tsang, Marma point work , Tok Sen, Yoga and Partner Yoga. Her teachers span across the United States and Thailand.
All of these specialties help reduce anxiety, stress, inflammation and pain, creating a more intentional way of being in people’s bodies.
Prior to the field of massage, Margaret worked as an Elementary Art Teacher, graduating from the University of Vermont. She was also a sailing and climbing guide for the National Outdoor Leadership School, a Naturalist for Hennepin Parks, and owned an Outdoor Food Company creating culinary delights for outdoor travel.
She has lived in Duluth since 2004 with her husband, Hansi, and their son, Tae. They enjoy involvement in the Duluth outdoors, including mountain biking, Nordic and Alpine skiing, running, camping and spending time on and in the lakes. Other joys include cooking, gardening, yoga, running her business and spending time in nature. She feels lucky and honored every day she comes to her studio to work with this amazing community.
Margaret has certifications as an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor, a Certified Licensed Massage Therapist, a Registered Thai Therapist, a Principle Based Partner Yoga Teacher, a Chi Nei Tsang Therapist, an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider, an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist, an Ayurvedic Bodywork Therapist and is an approved provider for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. She values the integrity of training and certification. She is registered in all the modalities she teaches and practices on clients.
